Mouse-City is home to a poet, two politicians, three indie bands, and lots of awesome storytellers and urbanists. But it doesn’t have a single building or any roads. That’s all about to change…
At the fourth annual TOTSAPALOOZA: MOUSE-CITY CALLING, urban builders between 2-8 years old will construct a giant model city for storybook mice out of recycled materials.
MATTHEW BLACKETT of Spacing Magazine, JOSH FULLAN of Maximum City at UTS, RANI SANDERSON of Jane’s Walk and City Councillor ADAM VAUGHAN will be on hand to advise the young city planners about urban design. And LISA KELLY of Centre For Art & Soul will help them with the actual building.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of LEO LIONNI’s classic tale about a poet-mouse, FREDERICK. We will celebrate this milestone with readings of Lionni’s mouse-based books by City Councilor MIKE LAYTON, Poet DAMIAN ROGERS, CBC Host and Author KEVIN SYLVESTER, and Novelist VIKKI VANSICKLE.
To herald Mouse-City in vintage DIY style, BELLWOODS TRINITY, UNFINISHED BUSINESS and SIANTEUSE & THE MOUSE-CITY REBELS (featuring such veterans of Toronto’s indie scene as SIAN LLEWLYN, DAVE TYSON, JOEL DEBOIS & EMILY BLITZ) will perform original renditions of songs from THE CLASH’s landmark album LONDON CALLING.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS (formerly FOOD FIGHT) with turn their amps up to eleven (which is how old they all are.) Get ready to pump your fists and thump your tail with this trio of graduates from GIRLS ROCK CAMP.
